Vuk Ćosić: Art & Society

Description:

Art & SocietyArt & Society examines the relationship between art and power by comparing the number of visitors of the Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana against the number of visitors of the American Embassy in Ljubljana.

Exhibitions:

This project was done for the U3 triennale at the Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana. The website design is a typical American cheap advertising page layout. The Flash graph shows the current Art : Power ratio and has an animated report feature. A version of the graph was projected onto a mounted screen in the Museum’s lobby showing just the current state. Also featured was a form to subscribe to daily SMS reports.

Vuk ĆosićData for the graph was collected from two cheap alarm sensors that were never meant to measure anything accurately. One was mounted at the Museum entrance and the other in one of the museum’s offices facing the American Embassy. Of course, Vuk wrote an email to the embassy, letting them know what he was up to, just in case. You never know with those paranoid Americans.

Initially, the two parameters were supposed to be art and money, but the Ljubljana Stock Exchange bailed out at the last minute.

As with many other Vuk’s projects, if you get the joke, cool, if not, who cares.

Execution:

Two sensors mounted at specific locations, increemnting the number of passer-bys in the database.
