East Art Map Online

Sunday, November 14th, 2004

Description

East Art Map OnlineEast Art Map Online is a joint effort between the artist group Irwin and Renderspace – Pristop Interactive, the production company I was working for at the time, to bring the East Art Map to the internet as an interactive collaborative database. It allows visitors to post comments, suggest replacements for individual works and read news and articles by participating curators.

The project “East Art Map – A (Re)Construction of the History of Contemporary Art in Eastern Europe” was initiated in 2001 by the Slovenian artist group Irwin. The “East Art Map” (EAM) aims at critically (re)constructing the history of art in Eastern Europe between 1945 and the present beyond ex-Socialist ‘official’ chronicles, national legend formation and fragmented information present in the West.

Martin Krpan

Sunday, July 18th, 2004

Martin Krpan splash screenI did this game with the Hikikomori studio for the Slovenian Government as part of an educational portal for children. The main character, Martin Krpan, was taken from a famous Slovenian tale by Fran Levstik about a salt smuggler that is invited to Vienna by the emperor to fight against a generally unpleasant giant Brdavs.
In this modern adaptation, our hero travels through the beaurocratic maze of the Slovenian government, each level representing a different ministry where Krpan has to collect trucker’s permits, while answering trivia about the government and avoiding obstacles. I provided the game logic, engine and worked with Jure from Comland to tie it to the backend, while all levels and characters were designed and animated by Aljoša and Aron from Hikikomori.

I wonder if this game will ever see the light of day, especially since the last elections.

SCT CD-ROM

Thursday, July 15th, 2004

SCT presentation CDThis was a simple presentation CD for SCT. The requirement was, that they must be able to edit the contents of the presentation themselves. Since most people don’t know about XML or HTML, I had to come up with a way for them to change the sturcture and content without typing markup tags manually. So I created an HTML and XML tree editor for them, but they still insisted I show them how to use it. Well, as it turned out, I left the company soon after that, and although I was willing to do it afterwards, it never happened.

Lumpi’s games

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

Lumpijeve igrice / Lumpi's GamesMercator’s Lumpi brand is aimed at their youngest customers and it’s aggressive product line features everything from baby-care products and school accessories to chocolate, cereals, candy and non-alcoholic champagne for kids(!)

The Lumpi website is also targeted at the young ones, offering cute and easy games for them to play with. Matevž and I came up with the first three, which were just re-packaged versions of classic games: Puzzle, Simon and Memory. After all, re-packaging classic brands is what Mercator does best.

Telekom Svetovno

Telekom SvetovnoThe first prize for the lucky person that finished all 5 levels and was selected randomly from a prize draw was a trip around the world for two people. So the concept was basically, 5 different games that take you an a trip around the world.

I programmed the game’s skeleton, which included a user profile system and scoreboard. I also did the first level of the game, which was basically flying a plane and collecting orange blobs for points.

Polo Cool & Family

Tuesday, March 9th, 2004

Polo Cool&FamilyCool&Family is an edition of Polo with semi-automatic air-conditioning, so the ad featured penguins (the other obvious choice would be eskimos).

The goal of the game is to drop all the penguins into the car. Big ones throug the front doors and little ones throug the back doors. When there are too many of them inside, you have to turn up the cooling, so that they don’t run out.

I thought this project was going to be one more thing on the assembly line, but I had quite a few laughs animating the penguins and everybody went crazy for the game.

Subrina

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2004

SubrinaSubrina is one of those brands that just won’t give up. I remember it used to be the name of Ilirija’s hair conditioner back in socialist Yugoslavia. Acutally, the name Subrina was used as a synonym for hair-conditioner becuase it was the only one on the market. It has recently been redesigned and expanded into a whole hair product line including shampoos, styling gels and waxes, hair colors etc. By the way, if you need a really really really strong styling gel, try Ilirija’s Ehogel.

The idea for the site was to create an online simulation of a fashion magazine. I find it cool because it reminds me more of those magazines that you read while you’re waiting for your haircut at the Lassana hair salon. It features a product-line spread, make-overs, style tips, prize-winning opinion polls, desktops and so on. The plan was also to have all sorts of gadgets that you usually find in magazines, but all we ever did was the complimentary shampoo sample that’s glued to page 2 of the first 2 issues.

The issues are all designed manually in flash, but the system was devised so that the designer can add and update the content himself, without my help.
